Armoire, Val d’ Loire, France, c.1760
This is a beyond doubt an outstanding piece of furniture!! The walnut must have been hand selected, and the carved and molded front AND SIDES!! exhibit superior craftsmanship. Notice the slightly cabochon crest centering the top rail, and the deep and flowing carving of the bottom rail. Another feature ~ the lower panels of the doors: notice that the panels themselves have a carved molding, as well as the rails and stiles of the doors. Also of importance is that she still has her original cornice, and feet! An authentic and important piece of the 18th century!
64” wide including the cornice
